How do I wash my diapers?
Start with a rinse cycle (no detergent). Then a Hot (95 degrees) wash cycle (with detergent & Calgon water softener). Finish with an extra rinse.  Dry inserts in the dryer, air dry covers. Do NOT use fabric softeners, dryer sheets, or dryer bars.

----Top Loading Conventional Machines:  Watch the water fill to determine what level to set machine to.  In my machine the “small” load was perfect for 10-15 diapers.  You want the diapers to be covered in water, but not swimming.  Start with a rinse cycle (cold or warm is fine).  Follow with your hot wash w/ detergent & Calgon.  Finish with and extra rinse.  I recommend using 1 Tablespoon of detergent for every 4-5 diapers.

----Front Loading & HE Machines: HE machines are great for the environment because they use very little water. Unfortunately, that’s not so great for washing diapers.  This is not a deal breaker, but you will have to “trick” your machine into adding more water.  I personally own a conventional machine, so I asked one of my customers with a front loader to share her wash routine
Step 1 - rinse and spin
Step 2 - hot wash + prewash, heavily soiled, high spin, extra rinse. 1 large load size scoop of detergent & 1 cap of Calgon in regular wash slot and 1 medium load size scoop in prewash slot.
Step 3 - rinse and spin

What detergent should I use?
There are dozens of lists, charts, etc breaking down various cloth diaper safe detergents.  I personally used Country Save & Cedar Grove Sundries Cloth Diaper Detergent. Products containing fabric softeners (e.g. Tide w/ Downy) and/or borax/washing soda/shaved soap combinations are NOT safe for cloth. Several of my customers use Tide Original Powder & Gain w/ no problems.  I have no personal experience washing diapers with either of these.

What is Calgon?
Calgon water softener is a great little product I highly recommend.  We have hard water in this area & by adding a cap of calgon to your wash routine it can spare you from getting mineral buildup.  Calgon can be purchased at Walmart or Reasors for under $7 a bottle.

How do I strip my diapers?
"Stripping" is a way to troubleshoot problems with diapers. It is not something you should expect to do regularly. It is only needed if there is a problem.
There are different ways to strip for different problems.  Here are some examples:

--My diapers are repelling liquid! - This usually happens if something like petroleum or zinc based creams, or fabric softener/ dryer sheets get on your diapers.  In this situation you will want to strip with Dawn dish soap.  This can be done by washing diapers on hot w/ a small amount of regular blue Dawn dish soap.  Then follow up with cold rinses until there are no bubbles left in the water.

--My diapers are dingy & crunchy! - Hard water can lead to mineral build up in fabrics. If you live in the Tulsa Metro area- you have hard water.  You will want to do an RLR strip in this case.  RLR is a laundry additive that removes mineral build up from fabrics.  Soak diapers in hot water w/ RLR for 4-6 hours.  then follow with a few extra rinses.

--My diapers STINK! (or My baby has yeast!)- You have bacteria build up from not getting your diapers clean.  First you will need to do a hot wash cycle without detergent.  Then you will need to bleach your diapers.  Please check with each manufacturer-not all diapers are bleach-able. Run a hot wash cycle with a cup of bleach. Rinse until your diapers don't smell like bleach.  This is only something I recommend doing if you *have* to. If your diapers stink, you more than likely need to lower the water level on your washer & add more detergent.

What are Amber necklaces & how do they work?
Amber is a resin that contains succinic acid (a natural pain reliever). When worn against the skin, our body heat releases the succinic acid & helps with pain in a safe, natural way.  Children wear amber necklaces to help with pain caused by teething, reflux & ear aches.  Adults wear amber for headaches, arthritis, migraines, neck/back pain, TMJ, injuries, etc.  Youth sized necklaces are made with a safety clasp that will break away if the necklace is pulled hard enough to choke.  Also the beads are individually hand knotted so that if the necklace were to break, only one bead will fall off.   Prices: $15 & up

And What about Hazelwood??

Hazelwood beads absorb acidity from the body to help prevent & treat several ailments including: eczema, psoriasis, colitis, dermatitis, acid reflux, migraines & much more.  We carry Adult & infant sized necklaces made of Amber & Hazelwood beads.  In my opinion these are the "best bang for your buck". Not only do they help treat pain, but they help prevent the cause of it.  Prices: $25 & up

How do I order prints or colors of diapers that aren't in stock?
On my facebook page there is an album called "patterns to date"  go check it out.  Then send me a PM w/ the patterns you would like, & your email address.  I will send you an invoice.

One of my diapers delaminated! What do I do??
Bring it by the shop & I'll gladly replace it.  :)

  1. Hello. My daughter is due, a little girl, in July. I wanted to get her a diaper service for her. I've been reading all of this, but have other questions. Theres the outer pattern, the diaper goes in it and theres a liner also? I'm her mother, and all 3 of my kids were allergic to the chemicals, especially pampers, so had them all in cloth. Times have changed since then, in their late 20's and 30's. So when you have the time to chat, with prices and procedures, let me know. My daytime phone number is 9188953974 and I am Laura Hughes. My son was on my computer and that's his e-mail below. Thank you and I'll look forward to talking to you.
